Waterfront & New Construction

Gig Harbor Living: Waterfront Charm Without the Seattle Price Tag

By Elizabeth Foster · Pierce County Realtor®

New construction and waterfront homes are where I spend a lot of my time as a Realtor, and Gig Harbor is one of the places I point buyers to most often when they want real water views without a Seattle-scale budget.

A genuinely picturesque harbor

Gig Harbor's protected harbor, framed by Mount Rainier on a clear day, gives it a postcard quality that's hard to overstate. Boats docked along the marina, a walkable waterfront downtown, and views that rival much pricier areas around the Sound -- it's easy to see why buyers fall for it quickly.

A downtown built for actually living there

Unlike some waterfront towns that feel more like a tourist stop, Gig Harbor's downtown is genuinely used by the people who live there -- local restaurants, shops, and a waterfront walking path that residents use daily, not just on weekends.

Room for new construction buyers

Because Gig Harbor has continued to grow, there's a healthy mix of established waterfront properties and newer construction inland, which gives buyers more flexibility. If you're specifically looking for a newly built home with modern finishes and efficient systems, there's more opportunity here than in some of the more built-out waterfront communities closer to Tacoma.

Still an easy reach from Tacoma and JBLM

Gig Harbor sits just across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, so you get that separate, small-harbor-town feel while staying a reasonable drive from Tacoma, JBLM, and the rest of the South Sound.
